Policy compliance state
Policy compliance state is the status Azure Policy reports after evaluating a resource against an assigned rule. It tells you whether the resource appears compliant, non-compliant, exempt, conflicting, or not fully known for that evaluation. This is not just a dashboard color. It is the evidence operators use to decide whether a deployment broke a rule, whether a remediation task is needed, or whether an exemption is hiding risk. A learner should connect compliance state to a specific resource, policy assignment, definition, timestamp, and scope.

Tagging strategy
A tagging strategy is the playbook for using tags without making a mess. It answers simple but important questions: which tags are required, who owns the list, which values are allowed, where tags are applied, and what happens when a resource is missing one. Without a strategy, tags become random notes. With a strategy, tags become a dependable system for cost allocation, ownership, lifecycle cleanup, compliance evidence, and operational routing. The best strategies are small enough to follow and strict enough to m

Policy initiative
A policy initiative is a bundle of related Azure Policy definitions. Instead of assigning ten separate policies for tags, allowed regions, diagnostics, encryption, and public access, a team can group them into one initiative and assign that package to a scope. It makes a governance baseline easier to deploy, review, and explain. For learners, think of an initiative as a control set: the individual policies still do the checking, but the initiative provides the organized package, shared parameters, and management structure.

Policy Insights
Policy Insights is where Azure Policy compliance evidence becomes queryable. Azure Policy definitions and assignments describe what should happen, but Policy Insights shows what Azure observed after evaluation. It stores state records that show current compliance and event records that show recent evaluation activity. Operators use it to answer questions such as which resources are non-compliant, which assignment is responsible, when the state changed, and whether remediation improved results. It turns policy from a static rule set into operational telemetry.

Table Storage
Table Storage is Azure Storage for simple structured NoSQL records. You create tables, store entities, and identify each entity with a PartitionKey and RowKey. It is useful when the data is large, sparse, inexpensive to keep, and usually accessed by known keys. It is not a relational database, search engine, or analytics warehouse. The best fit is operational data that can be denormalized, read directly, updated independently, and kept cheap without requiring joins, stored procedures, or secondary indexes.

Table schema-less design
Table schema-less design means the table gives you a consistent place to store entities, but it does not force every entity to have the same application fields. One record can have Status and ExpirationUtc while another has RetryCount and Region. The required identity fields still matter, especially PartitionKey and RowKey. The design freedom is helpful, but it is not permission to ignore data contracts. Teams still need naming rules, versioning, validation, and reader behavior for missing or older properties.

Resource lifecycle
Resource lifecycle is the story of what happens to an Azure resource from the moment someone asks for it until it is retired. It includes naming, approval, deployment, ownership, tagging, access, monitoring, patching, scaling, cost review, backup, policy compliance, change control, and cleanup. The point is not paperwork. The point is knowing who owns the resource, why it exists, what depends on it, how it changes safely, and when it should be removed. Without that trail, every later change becomes slower and riskier.

Secondary storage region
The secondary storage region is the other region involved when an Azure Storage account uses geo-redundant options such as GRS or GZRS. Under normal conditions, applications write to the primary region, and Azure asynchronously copies data to the secondary region. Microsoft Learn anchors this term in Data redundancy - Azure Storage, but this field-manual definition is intentionally wider than an older short glossary entry because the page must teach what to inspect, what can break, who owns the decision, and which evidence proves the Azure environment is behaving as intended..

Cosmos DB physical partition
Cosmos DB physical partition means a fully managed internal storage and compute partition that hosts ranges of logical partition keys in Azure Cosmos DB. In plain English, it is the thing developers and operators check when they need to understand how data access really works. It connects the application model to automatic scale-out, replica placement, RU distribution, and operational signals such as hot partition diagnostics. For a production team, it turns vague database talk into a specific thing to inspect in the portal, SDK code, templates, metrics, and incident notes.

It connects the application model to capacity planning, throttling prevention, RU allocation, cost control, and predictable performance for operational workloads.
